Condition monitoring software extends to driven assets

01 October 2013

GE's Measurement & Control division has launched Bently Nevada ADAPT (Advanced Distributed Architecture Platform Technology) 3701. Previously a condition monitoring solution developed solely for wind turbines, ADAPT now supports a range of OEM turbines and associated driven assets in several applications, including aero derivatives, through the new 3701 series.

The software now enables plant managers in operations of all sizes to protect and improve the longevity of their industrial assets, and ensure high levels of productivity in a safe environment. Data collected by the 3701 software enables operators to make informed business decisions, helping to avoid equipment failures and plant shutdowns.

Included in the 3701 product family are the ADAPT Aero, which provides distributed monitoring and protection capability in a scalable, skid-mounted architecture for LM2500 and LM6000 gas turbines and associated gearboxes, and the ADAPT Emergency Shutdown (ESD), which delivers overspeed detection and implements emergency shutdown when necessary – a key requirement of API 670, an industry compliance standard. Also included is the ADAPT GT, which protects and monitors gas turbines.

ADAPT’s distributed architecture is used to monitor the behaviour and health of plant assets at the site of the asset, compared to traditional monitoring configurations which are, typically, located in a centralised and controlled environment.
