The event organisers have told CEE that the event will concentrate on the real issues that affect users of communication systems – that of implementation, maintenance and management of the system. To this end, a series of collaborative workshops are being organised. A ‘hands on’ health morning workshop, for example, will include a selection of tools and will demonstrate a variety of techniques.The event organisers are also currently working on a interesting ‘plugfest’ workshop idea which aims to bring together a variety of components will be configured during the event, to demonstrate the interoperability of which Profibus and Profinet enabled devices. The June issue of CEE will include a more in-depth look at the conference programme and workshops. However, just as a taster we can tell you that one of the keynote presentations will be delivered by Profibus International chairman, Karsten Schnieder, who will be using the event to unveil some interesting new information about Profibus and Profinet for PA and providing an performance update on PROFIenergy. Profibus was first developed in 1989, and today there are over 40,000,000 installed nodes around of the world. A later development, PROFINET offers real-time Ethernet capabilities.The PROFI world has expanded rapidly and there are now PROFI-based solutions available to meet most industry requirements – for example PROFIsafe is an integrated safety technology for use in all sectors of discrete manufacturing and process automation. It is independent of the communication method and provides cost-effective and flexible functional safety. PROFIdrive is an IEC-standardised motion control technology designed to interface different drives from different vendors with the plants or machines communication system. PROFIenergy offers a standardized way to manage energy consuming devices over production networks. It enables control devices to send commands to energy consuming units (ECUs) to signal a production pause - for example during workforce breaks or during line stoppages –initiating a pre-defined ‘sleep’ mode within the ECU.Support servicesRegular checking of performance provides a proven way to reduce downtime and improve network robustness. At the event Control Specialists will be discussing its support services for Profibus and Profinet. Its certified Profibus and Profinet engineers can offer an as-needed, or contact-based support using industry-standard tools. These, together with its experience in the design of PLC/SCADA software, allow the company to identify and address installation, performance and configuration issues on the network.Siemens will be using the event to demonstrate its latest generation Simatic S7-1500 controllers for medium to high-end machine and plant automation which has been developed for use with the latest version of the company’s Totally Integrated Automation Portal (TIA Portal) engineering framework. New functions of this latest controller include extended safety functionality and expanded Profinet communication performance. Siemens Industry Automation Division has also expanded its Simatic ET 200 distributed I/O product family with a new generation of devices which will also be at the event.ABB tells us it will be showcasing its extensive portfolio of Profibus-enabled devices featuring its common HMI for local commissioning. Also on display will be the company’s large case water quality analysers, plus examples of its pH and conductivity devices and pressure, temperature, positioner and PLC products.Provertha will be showing an IP 67-rated axial plug-and-play M12 Bus connector, with compact measurements for constricted assembly situations. It also features 360° EMI/RFI shielding due to its metal die-cast housing, which makes it suitable for use in harsh environments.HMS will be showing its new Chip, Brick, Module (CBM) concept demonstrating how easy it is to connect devices onto Profibus/Profinet networks using its Anybus CompactComm concept which is now available either as a chip solution, which provides a network connectivity solution on a single chip for integration into the user’s PCB design; a brick solution aimed at users who have limited space or want to add their own choice of network connectors; or a complete, interchangeable communication module – all of these solutions enable Profibus devices to connect easily to other open networks.For more more information about the event go to: http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07e668zc082ff5fc9e&llr=ycu456cab
