Safety light curtain helps minimise safe distances

With its deTec4 Core range of safety light curtains, SICK says it is able to set new performance standards in efficiency, installation and reliability for a range of applications including machine tool protection, automotive production, FMCG goods handling and packaging, warehousing and logistics.

As well as meeting the latest EN standards, The deTec4 Core meets the latest EN standards. It has no blind zones, which offers optimum positioning and protection against unsafe access while enabling efficient operation.

The design of the unit is said to allow safety distances to be minimised to achieve best-possible machine integration as well as higher operator productivity. It offers protective field heights in increments from 300mm to 2100mm and a choice of finger or hand resolution, providing protection against operator intervention in accordance with EN ISO 13855 up to 10m. In addition, it complies with performance level “e” (EN ISO 13849), Type 4 (IEC61496) and SIL 3 (IEC61508).

Because the sensor works only in protective mode, configuration and range adjustment is automatic, requiring no additional set-up. Diagnostic codes are said to be simple and additional functions can be set up via safety relays, or the SICK Flexi Classic or Flexi Soft safety controllers.

Finally, the sensor is housed in an IP67-rated enclosure and is suitable for use in a operating temperature range from -300C to +550C.
