Blue detectable energy chain and hygienic cables for the food industry

30 April 2013

igus UK has launched two new blue products, aimed at the food processing industry, which enable manufacturers to produce food that is safe for consumption.

The blue energy chains are easy to detect, while the blue CFSPECIAL 544 cables offer an anti-microbial cable designed for use in energy chain application.

Machine failure and damage can never be eliminated, but being able to detect foreign materials quickly in food is vital to guarantee the reliability of food production lines.

The material used in the detectable polymer energy chain is igumid DT which allows spherical particles of the material, as small as 1mm, to be detected in fragments passing at speeds of 20 m/min by standard metal detection systems.

The hygienic cable is designed to prevent the growth of bacteria, viruses and mould. The entire jacket material has special additives so that the anti-microbial properties are contained throughout the composition of the jacket. As a result, these properties are emitted over a long life time to restrict the growth of micro-organisms. The material has passed the international tests for anti-microbial activity and effectiveness in line with ISO 22196 and JIS Z 2801.
