Accurate alternative to conventional variable area flowmeters

Where cost is a major consideration, and high accuracy not always required, variable-area flowmeters are generally specified in process applications. Burkert believes it is now able to meet the need for a competitively priced and accurate flowmeter, offering an alternative to conventional rotameters with the Type 8032 inline paddlewheel flow indicator / transmitter / switch.

The unit is said to integrate the functions of monitoring, transmitting and on/off control into a single, intelligent device with easy-to-read digital indication. In addition, the unit also offers automatic calibration, via a teach-in function and selectable outputs such as transistor, relay or 4-20mA.

The simplicity of the paddlewheel design means that the unit can be mounted vertically or horizontally, simplifing piping and installation. The choice of materials for wetted parts of the flowmeter – including brass, stainless steel, PVC, PP or PVDF / FKM (EPDM option), and PVDF/ceramics for the paddlewheel – also allows the unit to be used with a wide range of fluids.

A wide measuring range – from 0.3m/sec to 10m/sec – with linearity of ±0.5% of full scale (10m/sec) and repeatability at = 0.4% of reading is possible.
