Eplan advances

03 December 2012

Eplan has launched the new 2.2 version of its Eplan engineering design software which incorporates numerous functional extensions and new modules, for example for field cabling. One feature is a data package, developed by Festo specially for EPLAN users and this includes over 2,000 smart device macros.

Rapid filters in the project data navigators, comprehensive parts data exchange and extended terminal design ensures greater convenience and speed in project processing. An intuitive graphical macro selection helps designers to implement standards, while still being able to navigate comprehensive macros.

Informative graphics and a clear structure are said to make accessing defined circuit templates easy. Complicated clicking through directory structures is replaced by graphically supported navigation, allowing for the creation of initial circuit documentation while working closely with customers as early as the initial project brief.

Version 2.2 focusses on the evaluation of terminal data. The switching states of the terminals stored in the circuit diagram can be automatically illustrated graphically in reports.
Eplan FieldSys offers informative and complete project documentation for automation technology. This documentation becomes an integral part of the Eplan project with the new FieldSys module. Cables can automatically be routed through a network and the lengths calculated from an underlying 2D shop layout.

A new data package has been developed by Festo specially for EPLAN users and this includes over 2,000 smart device macros, offering additional strength to the mechatronic orbit of the CPX electric terminal. Users of the EPLAN Platform can use this to create overview drawings, electrical and pneumatic circuit diagrams, and PLC overviews.

This brings together configurations in electrical and fluid project engineering. The device data is available in six languages and comprises intelligent module configurations that already contain their electrical and fluid engineering connection logic, including function templates. The final type code of the configured Festo valve terminal is the link. It comprises two ID codes, one for the electrical and one for the pneumatic section. The designer can use this ID code to select the most appropriate of the predefined device modules and place it by Drag & Drop, into the electrical or fluid engineering documentation.

The data can be downloaded from Festo's website at no charge www.festo.de/EPLAN.
