ATEX approved magnetic cylinder sensors

07 August 2012

Balluff has expanded its portfolio of magnetic cylinder sensors for pneumatic cylinders with the introduction of the BMF255, an ATEX (Zone 0/20 category 1G/1D) rated sensor, which can be used in areas with continuous, long-term and frequent occurrences of dust, gases and vapours.

The sensor can be easily inserted into a ‘T’ Slot cylinder, from above, using a stainless steel secure hold clamping screw, which is situated at the cable end of the sensor to prevent any snagging of the cable while lifting the sensor out of the slot. For round and tie bar profile cylinders a variety of mounting clamps are available with tie bars up to 20mm diameter.

The switching function is Namur normally open, there is an LED function indicator and the switch has a protection standard of IP67. The overall length of the sensor is only 25mm, making it suitable for short stroke cylinders.

Balluff can also supply isolating amplifiers for connection outside of the ATEX zone.
