The upgrade is being designed and implemented within the context of the Suriname Refinery Expansion Project, which will double the capacity and expand the range of products and fuels, with a focus on the satisfaction of the domestic transportation market. The project is being managed by Saipem as the main contractor responsible for engineering, procurement, modules prefabrication and construction management. A development of Honeywell’s Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) architecture, ICSS is an all-encompassing safety solution which is said to provide robust and secure control for critical applications. The upgrade includes the expansion of the alarm management system, Operational insight software and OPC desktop historian solutions which are already installed at site. This suite of tools will provide Staatsolie with automatic monitoring of system changes, a platform for cross-departmental collaboration and enable the communication of information from data sources to any client application in a standardised format.“Within the next decade, Staatsolie aims to confirm the position of leading agent of sustainable development within the Surinamese energy industry. We need to take advantage of the latest safety and control technologies in the market in order to improve process efficiencies and security for our operators and our plants.” said Rudolf Elias, project director, at Staatsolie. “By upgrading our systems to Honeywell’s ICSS technology, we are laying the foundations to achieving our goal of serving effectively our fuel domestic market as number one player in the Surinamese energy sector.”
