Optimisation solution increases chemical efficiency at pulp & paper mill

25 May 2012

Advanced controls together with analysers are helping a Burgo ardennes pulp & paper mill to face the challenge of running the fibre line more effectively and preserving the fibre quality properties at the same time.

Metso has won an order from Burgo Ardennes for the supply of a bleaching line optimisation solution at its Virton mill in Belgium. This will replace the existing aging analyser. The
integrated plant produces hardwood kraft pulp and woodfree coated paper.

The new solution aims to establish stability of the pulping process, which leads to the optimisation of the bleaching production, the decrease of the chemicals consumption and then the decrease of the impact on the environment. Another key element is to better maintain the stability of the end product's brightness, together with on-spec production, allowing the mill to maximise the profitability of its pulping line.

Metso's will supply the bleaching optimiser, which includes necessary sensors and analysers . New samplers will also be added, in addition to a variety of new in-line sensors such as a brightness measurement tool for continuous brightness measurements and a filtrate sampler for pH measurements.

Metso's solution was chosen for its proven reliability and because of the company's extensive knowledge of the pulp process.
