Active redundancy modules increase reliability

30 August 2011

Phoenix Contact has added two active Quint Oring redundancy modules to its product range.

The modules are designed to increase operational reliability by monitoring the redundant power supply solution from the output voltages of the power supplies through the power supply wiring up to the load, as well as the decoupling section up to the load current. The modules offer advance warning about critical operating states such as incorrect wiring or defective cables.

The newly developed Auto Current Balancing (ACB) technology employed in the modules is said to double the lifetime of the redundantly operated power supplies, ensuring that both power supplies have the same load.

The load current is automatically and symmetrically distributed. Permanently monitoring the load current offers the advantage that it will immediately identify if redundancy is lost when additional loads are connected to a redundant power supply.
