Hazardous area electric actuators help increase tank farm capacity

26 July 2011

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) has placed an order for 150 AUMA electric actuators to aid valve operation at a new tank farm, helping the company to increase capacity from 12 to 18.5 million metric tones per annum.

Located in Mangalore, the scheme is India’s only facility with two Hydrocrackers producing premium diesel. Hazardous location operation was a key requirement for field devices which resulted in the specification of AUMA SAExC multi-turn products, which meet a range of international standards including ATEX, IECEx, CSA, FM and Indian:CCOE.

ACExC actuator controls were also commissioned as part of a full service provided by AUMA India that included delivery, installation and support.

Commenting on the advantages of AUMA’s modular products, MRPL reports that the interlocking actuation solution supports the site’s automated procedures to process a variety of API crudes. Operation is enhanced with push-button controls, mounted at accessible angles and Non Intrusive (NI) capability enables remote parameter programming using local control pushbuttons on the actuator.
