Belden has extended its Hirschmann™ product series to include a new workgroup switch from the MACH104 range

25 July 2011

Belden has now introduced the new Gigabit Ethernet workgroup switch MACH104-16TX-PoEP from its Hirschmann product range. This switch has 16 TX ports (10/100/1000 BASE-TX) that support PoE and PoE Plus and four combo-ports (10/100/1000 BASE-TX or 100/1000 BASE-FX). There are also versions available with two 10-Gigabit XFP uplinks or redundant power supplies as well as a fanless variant with an external power supply unit. The new switch can also be integrated into Profinet and Ethernet/IP networks and offers a number of additional features including extensive management and redundancy facilities and various configuration and diagnostic functions. Its high level of resistance to vibration and shocks coupled with broad immunity to magnetic fields and electrostatic discharges contribute to the unit’s operational safety. Since the switch is geared for a temperature range of 0°C to +50°C, it can also be used inside switch cabinets without powerful cooling systems. Thanks to the wide range of available variants, the MACH104-16TX-PoEP can be used for versatile and therefore economic solutions to implement connections to terminal equipment such as IP cameras and VoIP phones on backbone automation networks.

Redundancy systems such as HIPER Ring, MRP (IEC ring function), rapid spanning tree, multiring and link aggregation ensure a high level of network availability. Security mechanisms provided include multiclient authentication via RADIUS server, access control via IEEE 802.1x or MAB (MAC Authentication Bypass), IP and MAC port security plus SNMP V3 and SSH. The switch status can be monitored locally using indicator contacts while detailed information can be displayed via a standard web browser. The integrated SNMP interface offers an additional centralized management function that makes it possible to use network management software such as Industrial HiVision.

The 448 x 44 x 345 mm switch (W x H x D) is designed to be installed in 19" switch cabinets and can be put into operation using plug and play. It can be configured either from the command line interface (CLI), Telnet, BootP, HiDiscovery, Watchdog Configuration or via DHCP server. A USB interface can be used with the auto configuration adapter ACA 21 to store the configuration data and recall it as and when necessary, and also to upgrade or downgrade the operating software.

With the new MACH104-16TX-PoEP from its Hirschmann product range, Belden is now offering the currently most powerful industry-grade PoE switch on the market. As product manager Pascal Unterdorfer says, "The 16 PoE ports offer a combined power of 246W, which could be used to power, for instance, up to 16 IP cameras. The high bandwidth also offers sufficient reserves to simultaneously transmit the video streams of those same cameras, and the whole package fits in an industry-standard switch that promises the well-known Hirschmann quality and occupies only one unit of height."
