WEG has jumped ahead of the IE2 electric motor energy efficiency standards regulations that come into effect in Europe this June by launching W22X, a full range of IE2, and IE3, standard high-efficiency electric motors. Choosing not to take advantage of exemptions in the EU regulations which provide a ‘get-out clause’ for companies selling lower efficiency motors into hazardous areas, WEG believes that IE2 and IE3 standard motors provide a better return on investment as they are available to buy without a significant cost premium. Sizes from 0.75KW through to 1MW are already available and were on show at Hannover Fair 2011.The ATEX/IECEx certified W22X motors are designed for service in aggressive and explosive atmospheres, while delivering the added benefits of high efficiency, minimised noise and vibration, and low operating temperature for increased reliability and safety.
