St. Helens-based ATG produces integrated control systems and custom-built control panels for the nuclear, defence, water, petrochemicals, oil & gas, pulp & paper and chemicals industries, across the UK. ATG has designed, built and integrated a broad range of electrical control and instrumentation systems, incorporating both AC and DC drives to match customer requirements. The addition of ABB drives allows the company to expand its capabilities, allowing its customers access to a broader product portfolio.ABB is supplying a variety of industrial drives and drive modules to ATG, which will integrate and customise them as necessary for its clients. “The ABB brand has great credibility and the range offers a good choice of drive products for our customer needs,” says John McDonald, ATG. “ABB also offers excellent product support and provide access to a number of resources that help us to get the most from their drive technology.”For ATG to become an approved ABB System Integrator partner, the company had to go through ABB’s factory approval process. The process involves eLearning, classroom training and the development of a business plan, identifying the correlation between the businesses in terms of the customer base. The whole process ensures that ABB and ATG’s business objectives are aligned in terms of industry and expertise. “By acquiring ABB System Integrator partner status, ATG customers can be assured they are getting maximum performance from their ABB drives,” says Steve Ruddell, division manager, discrete automation & motion. “ATG will benefit from direct access to our design staff; allowing them to engage us at the outset of projects, where required.“Achieving ABB System Integrator status recognises ATG as a high quality integrator with an in-depth knowledge of the ABB products.”“We have worked with ABB across other parts of our business and to extend our customer offering to include ABB drives was a natural step,” says McDonald. “Adding ABB drives to the range of products we use will allow us to access new markets and new customers.”The agreement ensures that ATG staff further improve their drives expertise by giving them access to a range of software tools and databases so they can be self-sufficient with ABB products, as well as access to training at the ABB University and through continual on-line training modules.
