Control and communication products for extreme conditions

02 November 2010

For applications in harsh ambient conditions, corrosive environments, or extreme temperature ranges, the standard properties of an individual device or system are often not sufficient.

This can restrict functional capability or operational safety, or in worst case scenarios could even result in total failure of the plant.

Siemens Industry Automation Division has addressed this problem with the introduction of an expanded range of applications for its Siplus extreme control and communication products which are designed for use in harsh environmental conditions.

The devices are now also certified for use in toxic atmospheres according to ISA-S71.04 GX, for offshore deployment (salt mist) and in ‘Arizona dust’. The components were previously suitable for use in corrosive atmospheres according to ISA-S71.04 G1, G2 and G3 as well as in situations involving 100% humidity, dewing and ice formation.

The Siplus extreme devices are used in aggressive environmental conditions such as salt-laden air or at extreme temperatures which would not be suitable for standard Simatic automation components.
