Copa-Data gets heavyweight backing for DCMI

27 April 2010

Copa-Data has targeted the automotive industry with its Dynamic Car Manufacturing Interface (DCMI). The solution is supported by Germany’s Ministry of Economics and Technology and is designed to promote a safe and efficient manufacturing process.

This solution illustrates an integrated flow of information in all stages of production – from HMI/SCADA systems through to MES and application of QA.

In automotive production, manufacturers record, process and analyse comprehensive manufacturing data. DCMI is designed to allow users to gain a better overview of this. For example, it directly displays which components are currently being manufactured or, on the production operative’s workstation, it displays which actions or tests are to be carried out. As part of this process, the information from the central control system or manufacturing control system is filtered and displayed for each respective manufacturing stage.

The graphical user guidance is claimed to help users to identify errors or deficiencies that arise, which are then reported back to the central systems. Technologies such as Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and .NET programming were utilised when implementing the DCMI. In addition, COPA-DATA is creating links to MES and QS systems, in order to ensure continuity in the overall system.

Impulse for growth
The Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology has launched the "Central SME Innovation Program", under the slogan "Impulse for Growth". As a result of a resolution passed by the German Bundestag, the Ministry is using this to promote innovative development and technology projects. COPA-DATA is celebrating the fact that the "Dynamic Car Manufacturing Interface" has received the support of the German body.
