Yaskawa Electric presents new series of low-energy IE3 motors

12 January 2010

At the SPS 2009 trade show, Yaskawa Electric showcased its new, high efficiency ECO IPM permanent magnet motor series that features IE3 efficiency grade. When combined with a Yaskawa V1000 inverter, these motors form a "highly efficient drive package that can help to significantly reduce lifecycle costs."

Additionally, the inverter features open-loop vector control technology.

The motors meet European CE regulations and will be available for the European market in 2010.

Compared to a level IE2 asynchronous motor, the motor is two sizes smaller. The smallest member of the product family features 56A size, the largest comes in 90B. The motors are available in B3 design and in flange-mount versions, both in 200V and 400V classes.

The V1000 inverter software can control an ECO IPM motor without a motor feedback, thus making them suitable for deployment in harsh environments

With the new ECO IPM motors, Yaskawa says it is meeting the new directive EU 640/2009 which mandates that motors of the previous EFF2 efficiency class may not be sold from 2011 onward.
