New high-strength hydraulic pump from Haldex

03 November 2009

New from Haldex Hydraulics Systems, the FERRA pump is a rugged two-piece pump ideally suited for construction equipment, materials handling and agricultural machines.

As the name suggests, FERRA features cast iron construction that is extremely robust across a broad temperature range. Both the housing and the front cover are of cast iron, which has made it possible to eliminate the rear cover and integrate the bearings into the housing and the flange to make the whole unit more compact. The result is increased power density and better installation characteristics compared with conventional designs.

The FERRA pump's gear profile is of an advanced design optimized for reduced pulsation and high power density in relation to the unit's relatively small package size. The bearings are located in the housing and the flange, while two pressure plates ensure high volumetric efficiency at low speeds.

Extensive testing has demonstrated that the FERRA pump matches or exceeds competitors' products and offers significantly better performance at low speeds (500 rpm). Both bench testing and in-vehicle tests have shown that the new design is highly suitable for high-flow implement and steering circuits and fan drive applications.

A range of pumps is available with displacements from 16 to 41 cc/rev and pressures up to 276 bar (4000 psi up to 30cc/rev). They can be used as single units or as multi-unit assemblies in combination with multiple FERRA pumps or with pumps from other Haldex ranges. The modular design also makes a wide choice of flange, shaft and port options.

Like other products in the Haldex range, the new FERRA pump embodies Haldex's modular construction philosophy, which means that standard housings can easily be varied to incorporate different valve functions and different internal connections. FERRA units can be combined in series both with other pumps from the FERRA range but also with other types from the Haldex family of pumps. The modular approach also helps to ensure the very exacting production standards required to deliver market-leading technologies cost-efficiently.
