Experts from the UK coatings and cathodic protection industry will gather under one roof to discuss these and other innovations in steelwork protection at the NEC Birmingham on 27-29 October.The three-day event – which is being held in conjunction with the Surface World and Correx Exhibition – includes 33 talks, seminars and workshops with delegates being able to earn up to 24 CPD points by attending, with rates as low as £95 per day.Sessions in the Coatings stream cover steel bridges, steel framed buildings and other steel structures. It kicks off with a plenary talk from Chris Tracey, FETA, on ‘Maintaining the Forth Road Bridge’, which is currently undergoing major restorative work. Coatings workshops will cover the ICATS initiative for the training of paint and coating inspectors and the launch of an important ‘No Blame’ insurance-backed painting guarantee scheme. The Cathodic Protection stream includes a plenary lecture from the Institute of Corrosion President, Professor Paul Lambert. Presentations will include concrete bridge protection, protection of immersed structures, pipeline monitoring, modelling techniques, offshore CP and explanations of new British standards.Workshops will include coating instrumentation demonstrations, personnel competence levels, training advice, and technical audit procedures.Delegates will be able to 'pick and mix' between the varied presentations. Full days can combine both conference sessions, workshops and the chance to visit the Surface World and Correx Exhibition, featuring many leading suppliers to the industry.
