Mid-Kent Electrical Engineering in Sittingbourne, Heasell Electromechanical Services in Hertfordshire, JJ Loughran in Cookstown, Co.Tyrone and Campbell's Electric Motors in Dublin are now certified to carry out repairs of Ex motors to ABB factory standards. The ABB authorisation certifies that the workshop is qualified to operate under ABB’s responsibility. Following a repair or modification, ABB Ex motors will continue to comply with Directive 94/9/EC or relevant Ex IEC standard requirements and maintain factory standard. All warranties stay in force and the original ABB declaration of conformity for the motor remains valid. The certified repairers have been trained by specialists from ABB’s factory in Finland, using documentation based on the requirements by the leading French certification body for the electrical and electronics sectors, BV-LCIE. The certificates are valid for three years. "With four more workshops qualified to carry out repairs of Ex motors, the network of ABB Motor Service Partners can now offer more flexible arrangements and a wider range of services," said Rob Wood, channel manager for ABB motors in the UK. "Whether users want to change an Ex motor to a different flange or completely rewind to a different voltage, we can now carry this out within the network, providing a rapid service while maintaining all warranties in respect of the equipment."An Internal Lead Auditor certificate from BV-LCIE has been issued to Mika Pentilä, manager of ABB Motors’ Ex workshop certification unit."We have put a lot of effort into this project," Pentilä explains. "The qualified repairers get access to ABB’s design information, enabling them to repair and restore motors to the original specifications, with the backing of the manufacturer’s certification."
