IO-Link Master for Connection in the Control Cabinet

06 July 2009

The new Inline-Modular IO Link Master permits IO Link-capable sensors and actuators to be connected in the control cabinet. IO Link is the new standard for communication in the lowest field level and therefore solves the “problem of the last meter”.

IO Link is a cost-effective solution for standard and unified communications down to the lowest field level, a fieldbus-independent communication interface for intelligent sensors and actuators.

Phoenix Contact was one of the first companies to produce IO Link connection equipment. It also has two other two IO Link Masters belonging to the Fieldline product family which permit IO-Link sensors to be directly connected in the field,

The Inline-Modular IO-Link Master has four type A IO Link ports that can be operated with the following data transfer rates:

• COM1 (4.8 kBaud);
• COM2 (38.4 kBaud); and
• COM3 (230.4 kBaud).

The IO-Link ports can be optionally used in the “SIO mode” as either standard inputs or outputs.

Further, an additional 12 digital sensors can be connected to the terminal – either using the two or three-wire method. Short connectors keep the space requirement low.

Diagnostic LEDs showing the status of the sensor supply, the IO-Link ports and the digital inputs offer comprehensive local diagnostics.
