FMA completed a full site audit and replaced the existing software with a Siemens S7 400 PLC, converting the Alert 500 code. The addition of WinCC SCADA will provide up-to-date interfacing.Paul Bunyan, sales and marketing director at FMA, said: ‘In completing the upgrade The Cheese Company will benefit from all legacy software supported by the latest hardware, significantly enhanced diagnostics and advanced reporting. As an added safeguard, all procedures are fully reversible to allow for any unknown, albeit unlikely, scenarios during the changeover process. Additionally, in order to ensure an absolute minimum of disruption, the changeover will be conducted in one very brief shutdown window.’The Cheese Company claims to be the UK’s largest cheese manufacturer and produces more than 20 varieties of cheddar, Blue Stilton and British regional cheeses for the retail, food service and ingredients sectors. The Lockerbie Creamery produces Cheddar, Red Leicester, butter and a half-fat cheese. Last year the Creamery scooped two awards at the Royal Highland Show, winning the title of Supreme Champion for its Lockerbie branded mature cheddar and its Lockerbie salted sweet cream butter. FMA offers a route to convert the Alert 500 code for adaptation to the Siemens S7 series. ‘The vast majority or organisations understand the benefits of ensuring their control technologies remain fully supported,’ concluded Bunyan. ‘With our solution for the Alert 500, we are one of the few organisations able to provide this additional service.’FMA Process Engineeringwww.fma.uk.com
