No manufacturer can calibrate flowmeters more accurately than Endress+Hauser Flowtec AG in Reinach, Switzerland: the company’s new calibration facility sets standards worldwide. “It puts us in a position to satisfy even the highest customer requirements without any compromise whatsoever”, as CEO Dr. Gerhard Jost announced.Uniformly high product quality is one of the most important goals set by Endress+Hauser. In meeting these objectives the private family-owned company is prepared to invest significant sums in its production facilities. The flowmeter calibration facility in Reinach embodies an outstanding concept, with the backing of a 22-strong team of highly qualified engineers, technicians and de-signers. They channeled the 30-plus years of experience amassed by Endress+Hauser Flowtec AG into this project. The new calibration facility produces measurements that deviate no more than 0.015 percent from the reference value – equivalent to about the contents of one champagne glass in one thousand liters of water. Thirty influencing variables in all were taken into account in order to achieve the excellent perform-ance of this facility. A regimen of constant checks and controls ensures that the high requirements on calibration accuracy are reliably satisfied. Dr. Hugo Bissig from the Federal Office of Metrology (METAS) in Bern and Mr. August Schaub from the Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS) represented the Swiss accredita-tion authorities at the opening, and had the opportunity of seeing for them-selves just how this reliability is implemented.Highly accurate calibration satisfies all requirements“The new facility enables the Promass F Coriolis flowmeters we manufacture in Reinach to be calibrated accurately to the specified figure of 0.05 percent”, explained CEO Dr. Gerhard Jost to the guests. “That represents the very best in the international league.” Accuracy of this nature enables the company to cope with increasingly stringent customer requirements in future-oriented sec-tors such as life sciences, chemicals, foodstuffs and petrochemicals. “As well as performing reliably, our flowmeters must present certification for their high measuring accuracy”, emphasized the CEO.Throughout the production process, Endress+Hauser subjects all the components to constant and rigorous checking. The fully assembled flowmeters are then tested, calibrated and adjusted in state-of-the-art calibration facilities. Calibration means that the flow indicated by a meter is compared with the reference value furnished by the calibration facility, and the meter is then adjusted accordingly. Customers throughout the world benefit in a number of ways: they can dependably measure and process costly raw materials and intermediate products, comply with what are often extremely strict quality specifications, and implement optimum process automation to minimize their costs. This is particularly important for custody transfer applications, for example fuel loading.Same calibration concept for locations all over the worldAs an international player, Endress+Hauser operates in accordance with inter-nationally accepted standards for the accreditation of its products and test methods. One unique facet of the company's operations is that all Endress+Hauser’s flow calibration facilities are accredited by widely different national authorities – including for example SAS, A2LA and CNAS – in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025. Since all test resources are seamlessly traceable back to national standards, customers can invariably look to Endress+Hauser to provide the same uniformly high standard of quality, be it in product quality or in field testing of their process facilities.
