GarrettCom's entry-level field switch

05 May 2009

GarrettCom has added a new entry-level model to its popular 6QK range of compact managed switches, providing users with a full-featured, 10-port Ethernet switch with gigabit capability at a market-leading price.

The new 6KQE is a hardened industrial field switch that offers flexible configuration options. The base unit provides four 10/100MB copper ports as standard (regular or Power over Ethernet), with users free to select up to four more 10/100MB copper ports, or up to three 10/100MB fibre ports (or a combination of the two) and up to 2 gigabit ports, to a maximum of ten ports in total.

The 6KQE provides an ideal entry-level product for building rugged and reliable switched Ethernet network infrastructures, connecting PLCs and Ethernet-enabled edge-of-network devices with upstream switches and routers. The hardened design combined with its ability to handle stressful mixtures of high-burst data traffic and priority streaming traffic makes the 6KQE suitable for use in a range of demanding environments (including outdoor environments). Applications include industrial video surveillance systems, power utility substations, traffic control and transportation facilities, tariffed carrier field facilities, or oil and gas plants.

Highly compact and available in both panel and DIN-rail mounting versions, the 6KQE meets user requirements for small form factor, flexible Ethernet switches in demanding industrial applications. It is sealed to IP53 for dust and water resistance, and features a unique case design for maximum heat dissipation. It is also available with conformal coatings options to meet the specific needs of the oil, gas and petrochemicals sectors.

The 6KQE supports a range of power options, including 12V, 24V, 48V, 125V, dual source, PoE, 250V DC, and universal AC.
