The fourth generation wire stripper

Having continuously improved the stripping tool in both technique and functionality, at Hannover Messe Weidmüller presented its fourth generation of stripax[tm] with a variety of significant and practice-oriented innovations. The stripping tool is suitable for flexible and solid conductors with PVC insulation, multi-conductors and thin ribbon cables – thus the user can prepare several types of conductors using only one precision tool.

Having continuously improved the stripping tool in both technique and functionality, at Hannover Messe Weidmüller presented its fourth generation of stripax with a variety of significant and practice-oriented innovations. The stripping tool is suitable for flexible and solid conductors with PVC insulation, multi-conductors and thin ribbon cables – thus the user can prepare several types of conductors using only one precision tool.

The stripping tool combines the latest ergonomic findings with strong design and innovative details: detachable grip plates allows adjustment of both handle form and handle length to suit different-sized hands (first photo). Users with small hands as well as users with large hands can equally handle the tool precisely and work effortlessly and without fatigue. Thus the new stripax reduces strain during work. The user will appreciate the excellent ergonomic design especially for extensive wiring jobs when having to use the tool for a longer period of time.

A hinged protective cover for the cutting edges avoids accidental damage of conductors when stripping cable bundles or during stripping in limited spaces such as cabinets or cable ducts.

A new feature called partial stripping, which can be activated separately, leaves the cut insulation on the conductor thus preventing the conductor from fanning out. The insulation off-cut is not removed until the crimping process is started. This enables quick, safe and easy insertion of the conductor into wire end ferrules and other possible contacts to be stripped. Furthermore, partially stripped conductors are easier to be pre-fabricated and transported.

Removable clamping jaws guarantee quick and easy exchange of the blades without special tools or knowledge.

The stripax offers individual marking with the ESG device markers. The personalised marking facilitates individual identification of a tool’s owner, which is quite helpful during repair or inventory. Another feature is the integrated off-cut ejector, preventing insulation off-cuts from being stuck between stop and blades and thus avoiding time consuming manual removal of insulation off-cuts. Smooth-running sliders simplify the adjustment of both stripping length and thickness of the insulation: The maximum stripping length has been extended from 18 mm to 25 mm, and the tool can precisely be adjusted in width for thin or thick insulation material (second and third photos).

The tool provides further practice-oriented and improved features: The 70 special stripping blades are self-adjusting and do not damage the conductor. The clamping jaws open automatically after every stripping process – even with closed handles. The conductor can quickly and simply be removed. A cable cutter on the underside of the tool allows clean and effortless cutting of solid and flexible conductors with a cross section of up to 6 sq mm.

The stripping tool is made of impact-resistant plastic material. It has a length of 190 mm and a weight of 175 grams. Two precision tools will be available in summer 2009: stripax for a stripping range of 0.08 sq mm up to 10 sq mm, and stripax 16 for cross sections of 6 sq mm up to 16 sq mm.

In addition to the stripping tool Weidmüller also offers tools for dismantling, cutting, crimping, screwing, and testing. Regardless which tool, automatic machine or accessory – the broad range of tools is state of art and offers maximum productivity.
