At Hannover Messe, Bürkert presents its latest positioner and process controller

The SideControl 8792 positioner’s strength, says Sebastian Kundel, is that offers excellent control accuracy combined with outstanding dynamic properties.

The 8792 is extremely flexible and suitable for a wide range of applications. It can be mounted in various ways to linear and rotary actuators according to IEC534-6/VDI/VDE 3845 (NAMUR) as well as to Bürkert process valves. For example, it can be attached directly to the actuator, used as an extended version or also installed in a switching cabinet.

The IP65/IP67-proof aluminium housing makes the SideControl 8792 suited for use under tough ambient conditions.

As a process controller (type 8793) with automatic control line detection (temperature, pressure, filling level and flow rate) and automated parameterisation, the device can be used for decentralised process control with optional simultaneous feedback to the control level.

THREE WIRE TECHNOLOGY

With its intelligent positioner, Bürkert makes full use of 3-wire technology. This makes the new controller significantly cheaper than comparable devices based on 2-wire technology.

In addition, the position controller is approved for ATEX zones 2/22.

It is suitable for both double-acting and single-acting actuators combined in a single device.

The control system's generous control air pressure range of 1.4 to 7 bar and the high air power range of 7 to 100 Nl/min or 150 Nl/min respectively at a pressure drop of 6 bar make the SideControl 8792 versatile enough so that customers can reduce their stock of different controllers to a minimum. Operating costs are reduced because no control air is consumed when the controller is fully actuated.

HMI

The 8792 positioner can be operated through a large backlit graphic display and offers a comprehensive range of functions. The menu control of the SideControl unit is operated through a 4-key panel. In order to standardise and simplify the processes for the operator, the concept is the same as that of the digital electropneumatic TopControl 8692 positioner from Bürkert.

‘End users of SideControl 8792/8793 units connected to control actuators with IEC or VDI/VDE interfaces and TopControl 8692/8693 devices for use on Bürkert control valves can thus use the same control logic for both types of controllers. This makes day-to-day operation much more efficient,’ explains Sebastian Kundel, segment manager for hygienic processing at Bürkert.

Initially, Bürkert will launch the standard version of the SideControl 8792 for adaptation according to IEC534-6/VDI/VDE 3845 (NAMUR) as well as the version with Profibus DPV1 connection. At a later stage, the company intends to have a remote version for externally connected position sensors and a low-cost basic version without display to the market.

BASIC FACTS AND DATA

1. Standard signal inputs and outputs (4-20 mA/0-5-10V/Profibus DPV1)
2. Binary inputs and outputs
3. End position detection by means of initiators (or the integrated displacement measuring system)
4. Mechanical position indication
5. Operating voltage 24V +/- 10%
6. Process value 4-20mA-, PT100 or frequency signal (with 8793 process controller)
7. Control air pressure 1.4 to 7 bar
8. RS232 port for software updates and parameterisation
