John Crane buys into America

07 April 2009

John Crane hopes to extend its hydrodynamic bearing business into North America with the acquisition of Orion Corporation. Orion employs 270 people at its facilities in Grafton, Wisconsin and Columbus, Nebraska, where it designs and manufactures hydrodynamic bearings for use in high-speed turbine, generator, compressor and gear drive applications.

Paul Cox, president of John Crane, said: ‘Orion builds critical mass in John Crane’s hydrodynamic bearing business and adds a manufacturing, sales and service base in North America to supplement our existing operations in Europe.‘

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval.
