STANDIC wanted to update its technology and move to a state-of-the-art wireless solution in order to get the main benefits that came with this new technology. In addition the company had to find a way to modernise the plant, but had no room for additional infrastructure or time for a major disruption to its business. ‘Although we had heard plenty of reasons on why not to implement a new technology for our terminal, we did our due diligence and knew that a wireless solution could be just the technology we needed and one that fit in directly with our forward-thinking when it came to modernising this facility,’ said Koos Donkers, operations manager. In 2006 the company looked for a way to incorporate a proven wireless technology in order to help improve reliability and decrease costs. Honeywell’s Enraf SmartRadar™ series offered them a solution for measuring tank level and delivering contact free measurement without moving partsCombined with Honeywell’s OneWireless™, the solution avoids wiring costs and continues to meet regulatory compliance. ‘Opting for a wireless solution has saved us 30,000 Euros, but the real advantage is that there are no wires involved which opens up a world of possibilities,’ said Mr. Donkers. He says some of the benefits he has been able to achieve include improved data collection and increased product reliability, with more accurate data collection that is trouble-free and interference free. The need for no additional hard-wired cables improves system life expectancy and reliability of monitoring devices. The system also opens the door to integrate other wireless applications, such as CCTV and gas detection.
