Siemens Introduces a Foundation Fieldbus Module

23 December 2008

The Siemens Industry Automation Division has developed a new Fieldbus Foundation communication module for connecting its flow instruments to the FF H1 fieldbus. This fieldbus operates at 31.25 kbits/sec on twisted pair instrument cabling with power and signal on the same wire.

The new fieldbus module is made for the series of Sitrans F M 6000 transmitter for electromagnetic flowmeters and Sitrans F C MASS 6000 devices which are used as transmitters for Coriolis flowmeters. These modules are part of the USM II (Universal Signal Module) family.

Installation of the fieldbus module is based on the "plug-and-play" principle, which means the user simply clicks the module into the mount of the instrument, as shown below.

The FF module is one of several fieldbus modules available for the instruments. There are also communication modules for HART, Profibus PA and Profibus DP, and Modbus RTU.
