The event organisers will be welcoming those who are fully Covid-19 vaccinated or those with a negative PCR test no more than 48-hours old to the Nuremberg showground.

A new ruling means that only those vaccinated, recovered and PCR-tested persons will be allowed access to the exhibition grounds. In return, exhibitors and visitors can waive the requirement to wear a face mask. The obligation to maintain a minimum distance from other persons is also waived, as are limits for the amount of people present. Increased cleaning measures, disinfectant dispensers and regular air changes in the halls will further contribute to the safety of all involved.

Sylke Schulz-Metzner, vice president of SPS at Mesago, explained: "It is our responsibility to offer the best possible conditions for successful trade show participation as well as creating a platform for professional exchange. The entire industry has been longing for these personal encounters for almost two years now. In close consultation with the SPS Exhibitor Advisory Board, we have decided to hold the event, under these conditions."

A new feature for the event this year will be the addition of a digital platform ‘SPS on air’ to effectively create a hybrid trade show. By linking the digital and physical worlds, the organisers hope to create a holistic trade fair experience that offers all participants around the world the chance to be part of the event.

SPS on air enables visitors to network digitally, and beyond the exhibition days with exhibitors and experts. It will be possible to initiate and follow up on contacts, as well as to gain insights into the physical event in Nuremberg.

The digital platform offers access to the lecture program, consisting of technical lectures, panel discussions, expert interviews and topic-focused workshops, which can be viewed live and on-demand. The programme will focus on key topics such as Transformation / Industrie 4.0, Industrial Communications, Safety & Security, New Logistic methods and robotic integration, Data driven and intelligent concepts for control and visualisation as well as Use Cases for artificial intelligence (AI).

Pepperl+Fuchs has embraced the hybrid concept and will combining its Digital Expo’ with a physical presence at the exhibition. The aim of the project is to establish an interplay between the respective advantages of analogue and digital communication under the motto ‘Your Future Automation’ and to transform both events into a holistic hybrid experience.

The company will be utilising a virtual, browser-based 3D environment Digital Expo for new, detailed exhibits on its products and solutions for factory and process automation. At the same time, these 3D models, supplemented by a few selected classic trade fair exhibits, will be presented in adapted form on digital touch tables at physical exhibition.

At both events, the company will address three major focus points of automation technology – E-Mobility – New Solutions for New Production Processes;  Functional Safety – from Extraordinary Products to Customised Safety Concepts; and  Industrial Communication – digitised processes for hazardous areas.

Digital transformation
Emerson will use the event to demonstrate industrial controls and automation that enable manufacturers to digitally transform their operations and realise greater production flexibility and performance. Features on the Emerson booth will include the latest programmable automation controllers and SCADA/HMI software, designed to provide improvements in operator and equipment effectiveness, machine efficiency, sustainability, interoperability and security in a wide range of motion control, machine safety and other plant-level and edge applications.

To remain competitive, companies need to provide product innovation supported by production flexibility, and increase operational efficiency through greater productivity, equipment availability, reduced costs, energy consumption and materials waste. The digital transformation of operations using technologies such as edge-based controllers and advanced software for improved visualisation helps to achieve these goals.

The demonstrations will focus on Emerson’s PACSystems, which offers a scalable platform for control, analytics and visualisation in discrete, hybrid and process applications. PACSystems edge controllers can operate as either an IIoT-enabled PLC or an advanced supervisory controller for manufacturing operations.

Connectivity solutions
Analog Devices (ADI) will be showcasing its range of sensing and connectivity solutions that are helping drive the transformation to digital Industry and enable increased productivity and enhanced efficiency for more sustainable and smart manufacturing.

A featured demonstration on the ADI booth will focus on 10BASE-T1L connectivity. ADI Chronous can give access to new insights, reduce system deployment time, and increase asset utilisation with real time configurability and direct IP addressability of each node. The demonstration will show a process automation network based on 10BASE-T1L connectivity, with multiple field instruments and sensor nodes connected to a fully featured field switch, with multiprotocol support. By interacting with diagnostics features live, visitors can experience how the solution can reduce system downtime and support optimised traffic management with its low power long reach connectivity spanning more than 1km.

Positioning tables
Aerotech will be demonstrating its PRO Series positioning tables with direct drive linear motors. The PRO series stage family are available with direct drive linear motor or ball screw options. Four of the direct-drive linear motor stages will be on display – a PRO115LM installed on a PRO165LM and a PRO190LM installed on a PRO225LM.  The tables are capable of high-speed motion with good velocity regulation. However, it is not only the speed and positioning performance that is characteristic of the range, but also its robustness. The sealed mechanical bearings make the PRO-LM linear tables insensitive to any kind of contamination. The linear stages are equipped with a low-friction sealing system, which is said to sustainably reduces maintenance in industrial applications.

Drive solutions
NORD DRIVESYSTEMS will focus on innovative drive solutions for smart and digital automation – from modern frequency inverters to high-efficiency IE5+ motors up to the DuoDrive geared motor.

With its IE5+ synchronous motor, NORD has succeeded in reducing losses compared to the current IE4 series. Its patent-pending DuoDrive goes one step further and is said to set new standards in performance, installation space and version reduction. At up to 92%, it offers one of the highest geared motor efficiencies on the market for this power class. It can also achieve high systems efficiency in the partial load range.

NORD will also present two new products – the NORDAC PRO SK 500P control cabinet inverter with extended power range up to 22 kW and the decentralised NORDAC ON inverter for lower power ranges up to 1.0 kW. An integrated multi-protocol Ethernet means that the required protocol can be easily set. Since no additional Ethernet modules are required, this results in version reduction with additional space and cost advantages.

Registration for this year’s event is now open. The hybrid event ticket will allow access to the on-site exhibition in Nuremberg in addition to the accompanying digital platform ‘SPS on air’.
