Nokia partners with WEG in a 5G / Industry 4.0 project

26 April 2021

WEG is working with Nokia, the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) and Anatel on a pioneering project to help better understand the regulation of 5G private networks for business use.

The Open Lab WEG / V2COM project, which aims to accelerate and develop Industry 4.0 solutions, is taking placing in one of WEG’s factories in Brazil. The Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) platform has recently been installed as part of the project ,to validate the quality and economic viability of the solutions to be developed under the project.

Nokia's automation platform offers a high-bandwidth, low-latency private network with local edge computing resources, voice and video services, as well as an application catalogue.

The WEG factory is serving as a laboratory, in which a private 5G network will be tested simultaneously with a conventional network provided by a Mobile Network Operator (MNO). Several practical and advanced cases of Industry 4.0 will be developed to and experimented with to identify productivity gains.

Two radio frequencies will be evaluated – one below 6-gigahertz (GHz), and the other between 27.5 GHz and 27.9 GHz. An independent research institute will do all the required performance analysis.
