Safety interlocks use RFID technology

08 September 2020

Safety interlocks in the new MN7XX series from ifm electronic use RFID technology in combination with unique actuator coding, which is said to render tampering and unauthorised operation virtually impossible.

Suitable for use in safety systems that meet the requirements for PL e to ISO 13849-1 or SIL CL3 to IEC 62061, up to 32 of the new interlocks can be connected in series without reducing the safety functionality.

RFID MN7XX safety interlocks offer a solution for applications where robust tamper protection is a key requirement. They can be supplied with pre-coded actuators that will function only with a specific interlock module, or with codable actuators that interlock modules can be programmed to recognise. Both versions feature integrated LED indicators that aid adjustment of the sensing range and also provide positive confirmation when an actuator is recognised and within range.

The magnetic safety interlocks can be activated from various directions, which simplifies installation. If required, they can be concealed behind a stainless-steel or aluminium cover as an aid to tamper prevention. They can be series connected to monitor multiple doors or guards and incorporate a non-safety signal contact to show which door or guard has been opened.
