The 3RK3 can be used in applications where several safety functions have to be evaluated but it would be too costly to wire together several switching devices. The modular design of the Sirius 3RK3 safety system saves costs because users only have to replace those devices that are really necessary for the application. At the same time, they can add more functions to the device unit if the application changes. The core of the system is the central unit with eight safety-related inputs, one safety-related relay output, and one safety-related solid-state output. In addition, users can connect up to seven expansion modules that can read in and output further safety functions. A Profibus DP interface module enables communication with higher-level controllers. With the help of the MSS ES parameterisation software, a component part of the system, I/O signals are set and device functions are interconnected, making tedious wiring a thing of the past.Photo caption: Siemens’ Sirius 3RK3 uncomplicated safety system.
