Chairman named for Offshore Europe 2009

The Chairman for Offshore Europe 2009, Aberdeen, UK based oil and gas event, has been revealed as Thomas Thune Andersen, CEO of Maersk Oil. Anderson stressed the importance of the event, from 8 to 11 September, 2009, citing issues such as ‘sustainability and meeting global demands’.

Organisers hope the biannual exhibition will continue to grow, building on the 2007 event that attracted 1,455 exhibiting companies.

Anderson described the oil and gas industry as having reached a crossroads.

‘Choices need to be debated and decisions need to be taken so the industry is prepared structurally and technically for the future,’ he said.

‘I am honoured to chair Offshore Europe 2009 at this time when the industry’s response to issues such as sustainability and meeting global demands has never been more important.’

Currently based in Copenhagen, Mr Andersen is a Partner of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group and is director or chairman of a number of companies within the group.

The event’s 2009 theme is ‘Energy At A Crossroads – Making Choices’. Each day panel sessions will take place, focusing on key issues of: Climate Change; Operating Models at the Crossroads; Breakthrough Technologies; Globalisation of the Talent Pool and Education.
