PA Resins AB has ordered a new automation system based on ABB’s System 800xA to improve the operations of its phenolic and amino resins plant in Perstorp, Sweden. The new system will reportedly help increase overall productivity, as well as integrate the plant’s production and business systems.

‘The ability to automate the entire manufacturing process, from customer order to end product was important for us,’ said Michael Palm, CEO of PA Resins. ‘That ABB can integrate its automation solution with SAP was one of the decisive factors for our choice of supplier. Another factor, that is as important as the technology, is the local service and support that ABB can provide for the project.’

ABB’s scope of supply includes its System 800xA with functionality for advanced batch handling, long-term storage of process data, and enterprise connectivity solution for integration with PA Resins’ corporate SAP system. An ABB spokesman says this streamlined, single point interface for vertical integration between plant and enterprise business systems enables easy information access and exchange while it eliminates the need for multiple customised and complex system interfaces.

PA Resins anticipates that the new system will help it react more quickly to changing customer requirements by making the production process more flexible with less changeover time needed between different product runs. PA Resins has yearly production volume of 65,000 tons.
