Robot equipment company acquires creator of cobot gripper

02 September 2018

Purple Robotics, which developed the first vacuum gripper designed specifically for cobots, has been acquired by OnRobot just two months after the OnRobot merger of three robotics companies from the USA, Hungary, and Denmark to create one global player with a strong focus on the market for industrial robot accessories.

With the acquisition of Purple Robotics, OnRobot says it is now in a position to offer its partners the world’s first dual vacuum gripper, following its launch at Automatica in June. Since its launch 40 partners in 25 countries have already concluded partnership agreements with Purple Robotics for the patented innovation.

The dual vacuum gripper can give a robot arm two ‘hands’ and thereby the ability to handle several items simultaneously. Additionally, it has an electric pump integrated in the gripper, meaning that users do not need to worry about hoses, compressed air, and cables which are required with conventional vacuum gripper solutions.
