Oat producer sets out on its mission to use data for operational improvements

07 August 2018

A UK-based oat producer has enhanced its maintenance practices, minimised downtime, and made significant cost savings by employing Maintenance Management Software (MMS) from Idhammar.

Previously the company had relied on a combination of a paper-based system with manual spreadsheets for its maintenance management, but the plant engineering manager recognised that this approach was inefficient and unreliable. He had the vision of implementing both computerised maintenance management software (CMMS) and overall equipment efficiency (OEE) systems but, viewing this as a long-term operational improvement project, made the first step with Idhammar MMS.

The engineering team also wanted to improve the visibility and transparency of the maintenance operation; minimise time spent analysing data and producing reports; and ensure inspection and audit compliance, and best health and safety practice. Idhammar MMS was able to fulfil these requirements giving the ability to attach manuals and instructions to individual assets so technicians have all relevant safety information, and the Idhammar REPORTS module which delivers reports, generated at the push of a button. The ability to schedule reports to be run and delivered automatically was a good solution for the busy maintenance team at the plant. Today the company is able to gather key data about work orders, fault logs, breakdowns and is using it to make improvements and increase operational knowledge.
