Chemical install marks 1,000 for Yokogawa

24 April 2008

The construction of a 200M Euro chemical plant, in Germany, has prompted an order for Yokogawa GMSC’s 1,000th Exaquantum PIMS system. The global Manufacturing Execution Solutions (MES) centre for the Yokogawa industrial automation group said the project also included provision of a CENTUM CS 3000 Distributed Control System (DCS) and Prosafe RS Plant Safety System.

The products have been specified by Quinn Chemicals, a subsidiary of the privately owned Quinn Group, which is investing in a new world-scale MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) monomer production plant at Leuna, near Leipzig in eastern Germany. MMA is a basic material used in the production of many plastics. Production is due to begin in late 2010.

The project is being engineered by the solutions team at Yokogawa Germany and advanced Process Control and Operator Assistance packages ExaPilot, ExaPlog, AAA-Suite and PRM are also being installed.

Nigel Bowden, MD of GMSC, said: ‘This order was won in the face of strong competition by Hans Thomes, Yokogawa Germany’s Key Account Manager, IA System Sales.’
