Penny + Giles celebrates global launch of new products

13 February 2008

MTEC 2008, February 13 and 14, saw the global launch of Penny and Giles’ new ICT050, in-cylinder linear displacement transducer for small bore mobile and static hydro-pneumatic actuators. The company also launched its universal-conditioning module (UCM) at the sensors, measurement and instrumentation show in Birmingham, UK.

Aimed primarily at the off-highway markets, the transducer is claimed to provide reliable, fit-and-forget position sensing of the cylinder rod in actuators with strokes up to 500mm. It is a robust, non-contact transducer suitable for the harsh conditions of lifting and steering position applications and hydro-pneumatic active suspension systems. It works on an inductive coil principle, with virtually infinite resolution and is capable of withstanding temperatures up to 200°C and working temperatures up to 500Bar.

The UCM is a low voltage, DC powered conditioning module that can drive a wide range of linear and rotary variable differential transformers and linear variable inductive transducers from a number of manufacturers. The set-up is designed to be simple and flexible. Users can alter the excitation voltage and frequency, operating mode, span output and zero position, as well as configuration for multiple synchronisation.
