Siemens buys UGS

16 May 2007

Siemens has acquired global software provider, UGS Corp., for US $3.5 billion (approximately €2.6 billion or £1.8 billion).

As a result the business will go to market as UGS PLM Software, a global division of Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) Group.

Tony Affuso, chairman and CEO of UGS PLM Software, said: “The acquisition enables the company and its people to leverage a powerful and respected global organisation like Siemens in strengthening our technology leadership in PLM.”

Furthermore, Tilo Brandis and Peter Bichara, two senior leaders from Siemens, are to join UGS PLM and relocate to its headquarters in Plano, Texas.

Affuso said he was pleased with the two new additions and continued: “We have been working closely together over the past several months on the integration process, and it is clear there is great advantage in combining their operational experience and knowledge of the Siemens enterprise with the considerable skills and resources of our team as we all drive toward even greater leadership in the PLM market in the future.”
