Schneider Electric has expanded its building automation services with the acquisition of California-based Pelco.

Pelco, video security specialist, is hoped to bolster Schneider’s power and HVAC control, electronic security and fire safety offerings, one of the company’s new businesses.

The transaction is expected to generate revenue and cost synergies estimated at $67 million (approximately €49 million or £33 million) on EBITDA in 2011, according to Schneider.

David McDonald, president and CEO of Pelco, said Schneider would make an ideal partner and commented: “Both companies share the same commitment to people, innovation and customer service that will make our combined enterprise an even stronger, more competitive player in the industry.”

“With this acquisition, a very important additional step is made to further reinforce our leadership in Open and Integrated solutions for Building IT,” added Arne Frank, executive vice president of Schneider’s Building Automation business unit.

Jean-Pascal Tricoire, CEO of Schneider, concluded: “This acquisition significantly reinforces our building automation business unit.”
