Omron scoops business award

12 January 2007

Omron has gained recognition for its Den Bosch manufacturing facility at an award ceremony in Harderwijk, Netherlands.

The supplier fought off 26 other entries to be awarded the title ‘World Class Team 2006’ by Blom Consultancy.

Before snatching the award Omron had to present its project alongside those of the other two finalists, Wegener and Bruynzeel. The field panel and the public chose Omron for an improvement in the changeover of a machine in the production process of printed circuit boards at the Den Bosch facility in the Netherlands.

Specialised production in small quantities means that the machines have to be changed about 100 times per week. The time needed for changes resulted in sales loses of 11 percent a week. Following adjustments in preparation, maintenance and signalling the changeover time has been cut to between three minutes and 30 seconds. In addition further cost savings claim to have been made with the reduction of machine and man-hours.
