Thomas Hardy Kendal experienced problems when trying to measure an ingredient, used in the manufacture of a new product, and installed an Optimass 1000 Coriolis Mass flowmeter.Previously measurement was conducted with an electromagnetic flowmeter, which could not handle the new deionised sweetener ingredient, the brewers said.The new flowmeter is installed on a two-inch diameter pipe, which feeds ingredients held in holding tanks into a mixing vessel.These can include fruit juice, wine, alcohol, sugar and water. These materials vary in viscosity and temperature.Thomas Hardy Kendal said the instrument measures the flow rate of each ingredient and outputs a reading to a visual display.An operator monitors the measurement and shuts off the flow once the right amount has been reached.David Rigg, engineering manager at Thomas Hardy Kendal, said: “We needed to quickly find a solution to measuring the deionised sweetener so that we could start producing products for this new contract.”
