Chris Fairclough, senior technical advisor at British Nuclear Group, explained the difficulty the engineering team had finding a device that coped with varying measurement conditions found on rigs.“We have a series of systems on our test rig that require calibration. We needed to make sure what flow we were running at and certain areas do not contain a flowmeter,” he said.The engineers were particularly interested in the clamp-on flowmeter because of the nature of the liquids, as Fairclough explained, “measuring the nitric acid flow through an air sparged pipe and the recycled flow through the rig”.“Originally Katronic was not the first company that we tried but the service was quick, friendly and efficient,” Fairclough continued.However, the company claims further technical benefits became apparent when they found out the KATflow range of ultrasonic flowmeters could measure in Transit time and Doppler mode.Therefore, the KATflow 220 provided the flexibility required to cope with demanding applications.
