HART hits back as Honeywell votes “no”

07 September 2007

Honeywell will oppose HART, in favour of ISA-100, by voting “no” in today’s HART Communication Foundation board meeting, according to a letter to Control Engineering.

The points raised in the letter, from Jack Bolick, president of Honeywell Process Solutions, were criticised by Ron Helson, executive director of the HART Communication Foundation.

Bolick said: “The most striking difference is that while WirelessHART is designed to support the HART protocol only, the ISA100 standard is designed to support multiple protocols, including HART”

Helson replied: “The HART 7 specifications, including WirelessHART, have been overwhelmingly approved by HCF members and are ready for official release.”

He continued: “I believe that the HCF Board of Directors will affirm the desire of the HCF Membership and authorise release of these Specifications at tomorrow’s meeting.”
