The system, claimed to be the largest constructed to date, is destined for a power station in Germany where it will help provide electricity for the country’s railways.

The 1100 MW coal-fired power station is currently under construction in Datteln, in the Rhein-Ruhr region and plant start-up is scheduled for 2011.

“Building power converters for every kind of application is a core expertise at ABB, enabling us to deliver a system of record capacity that will also meet customer needs for operational and energy efficiency,” said Tom Sjoekvist, head of Automation Products at ABB.
