Cooper joins forces with ABB

Cooper Tire and Rubber Company has drafted in ABB, in a deal worth $53m, to manage maintenance operations at its plant in Georgia, US.

Under the terms of the five-year service agreement, ABB will assume 100 maintenance employees and responsibility for all maintenance-related activities and equipment at the plant.

Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of Process Automation at ABB, said: “The ABB Full Service concept helps turn maintenance departments into profit centres. By bringing proven best practices to the full spectrum of plant maintenance activities, we add new value to our customer’s bottom line while they focus on their core business.”

Scott Jamieson, vice president of Manufacturing for Cooper Tire, added: “This service agreement is one of various strategic initiatives within Cooper Tire to improve manufacturing efficiency, product and customer mix, and market share.”
