Bosal cuts energy consumption

01 November 2006

Bosal (UK) Ltd has invested in a Thorite 3” diameter compressed air ring main with zone valves and related equipment, plus a gas welding ring main of 2” diameter, with 1” take off points.

The Lancashire replacement automotive exhaust system manufacturer has reduced running time of its five compressors more than 50% a week since the installation. These compressors are used to power pneumatically controlled machines and air activated tube saws, as well as providing breathable air for welding.

The 264 hours of compressor running time the investment has conserved reduces electrical power consumption and improves control. Bosal claims this is set to result in a year long saving of £26,000.

In addition, the new gas main removes leakage and reduces the operating pressure resulting in Bosal consuming half the volume of gas it did before the installation.

Peter Martin, engineering manager for Bosal said: “Thorite handled the new mains installations, from design to on site fix, during normal working hours with minimal disruption to production, in a very professional way.”

He continued: “I’m delighted with the greatly improved energy efficiency the new installations have brought which has to be every responsible manufacturer’s goal these days.”
