The exhibition and conference will take place on 28-30 November in Nürnberg, with some 1,200 companies (2005: 1,160) from 31 countries presenting themselves. The exhibition area will also increase, from 73,000 sq. metres in 2005 to 76,000 in 2006.The eight exhibition halls are interconnected and allow visitors a comfortable walkabout across the entireexhibition ground. A guiding system, arranged according to topics, is presented to visitors. The following themes are assigned to the exhibition halls:HALLS 1 AND 4 Electric Drives/ Motion ControlHALL 5 Mechanical Systems and PeripheralsHALLS 6 AND 7 Control Technology and SensorsHALL 7A Software and SensorsHALL 8 Control Technology and Interface TechnologyHALL 9 Control Technology and Interface TechnologyThis year, the show organisers have a new on-line information system for visitors, allowing them to preparetheir exhibition visit. Exhibitors, time schedules and products can be found in the Personal Exhibition Planner on the fair’s web site www.mesago.com/sps. Individual companies and their events can be compiled into an individual exhibition planning guide.Key topicsThree key topics are at the centre of SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2006: ‘Ethernet in Automation’, ‘Safety and Security inAutomation’ and ‘Motion Control’. Extensive information on the key topics will be available at the exhibition and the conference, and panel discussions will be held on the exhibition forums, regarding essential aspects of the key topics.Special presentations and forums The VDMA will present solutions for the automation of manufacturing facilities, with the special presentation ‘Applied Automation’, in Hall 6. Numerous presentations by users will demonstrate how manufacturing products and systems can be applied to the advantage of the customer. Examples from various sectors will be given, including the packaging industry, logistics and handling technology.Exhibition forums with panel discussions on current topics, as well as presentations of products by exhibitors, form an important and interesting source of information for the visitor. In both forums in Hall 1 and Hall 8, a total of 15 panel discussions by specialist publishers and associations will take place. Theforum in Hall 8 is under special direction of the ZVEI - Zentralverband Elektrotechnik- und Elektronikindustriee.V., the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association. Topics like life cycle costs of electric drives, wireless, innovative sensor technology, image processing, security and web technology will be dealt with here.A joint stand featuring ‘Wireless in Automation’ will again be presented in Hall 8. Companies offer their wireless automation solutions on Stand 8-402. Presentations and lectures on the topic ‘Wireless inAutomation’ will be held in the ‘Speakers’ Corner,’ integrated into the joint stand.The joint stand ‘AMA Centre for Sensors and Measuring and Testing Technology’, is taking place for the second time in co-operation with the ‘AMA Fachverband für Sensorik e.V.‘ (AMA Association for Sensor Technology). Members of the association present themselves in Hall 7A on stands 7A-540, 7A-546 and 7A-550, all under one roof.The topic ‘LINUX in Automation’ will also be presented on a joint stand where companies show their LINUX-based solutions for automation. The stand is located in Hall 7A, Stand 7A-640. The partner in presenting this stand is ‘LIVE Linux Verband e.V.’ (LIVE Linux Association). OSADL eG Open Source Automation Development Lab is exhibiting at SPS/IPC/DRIVES for the first time.
