Variable speed drives reduce costs while improving machine effectiveness

30 November 2015

Schneider Electric has launched the Altivar Machine range of variable speed drives (VSDs). Two complementary models – the Altivar 320 and Altivar 340 – lead the line up of new drives which are designed to meet the needs of machine manufacturers.

Benefits of the new range are said to include improved machine performance. The Altivar Machine range matches a variety of machine throughput requirements. It offers open-loop motor control with torque sensitive operation, even at low speed and dynamic accuracy for start/stop applications. Closed loop motor control is also possible, for applications requiring velocity sensitive operation or precise positioning and the range offers advanced connectivity with automation architecture via all common fieldbuses, even in real-time, with fast task cycle times.
The robust VSDs are designed to provide continuous machine operation in harsh environments with high levels of ambient temperature, dust, electrical interruptions, or mechanical disturbances and help to maximize machine operating time, as production changes, maintenance, safety diagnostics, network configuration, and system integration can all to be accomplished quickly.
The Altivar Machine range includes two variable speed drives. The Altivar 320 meets the needs of simple or complex machines from 0.18 kW to 15 kW, while the Higher performance model – the Altivar will be compatible with machines up to 75 kW. This model will be launched in 2016.
